Football season begins Published Aug. 25, 2008 By Airman 1st Class Veronica McMahon 325th Fighter Wing/Public Affairs Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla. -- The regular season of football is just around the corner, and the 325th Services Squadron is making sure Team Tyndall will get caught up in the frenzy. Football Frenzy, an annual program here, kicks-off Sept. 4 with a party at the Pizza Pub to celebrate the opening game. "Last football season was very successful," said Cathy Green, 325th Services Squadron Pizza Pub manager, "it brought out a great crowd." Football fans can participate in Football Frenzy 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. each Sunday during the season. "We offer games that some people can't see because they're through direct TV only, and not everyone has direct TV," said Ms. Green. The Pizza Pub has flat screen TVs and a big screen TV for the viewing pleasure of the fans. Games and prizes are also included each Sunday, as well as food and drink specials. "There are TVs everywhere, as well as bar-service, pizza and snack foods," said Sarah English, 325th SVS marketing specialist. "With Football Frenzy, you can have a sports bar environment with all your friends for about half the cost of going downtown." "We offer these things so people can get out and mingle, especially the Airmen in the dorms," said Ms. Green. "It's a great way for Airman to meet other people and it's a great atmosphere." Football Frenzy is not the only program Services is providing to add hype to the season; Pigskin Picks is another annual football activity. Pigskin Picks is a free program open to the base populace 18 years of age and older, said Denise Allen, 325th SVS Community Center director. People pick the teams they predict will win and turn them in to the community center the Friday before the game. "In Pigskin Pics, you pick the teams you are rooting for and hopefully will win a prize at the end of the season," said Ms. English. "Both Pigskin Picks and Football Frenzy are great programs for Tyndall and Airmen here because they are opportunities for competition and camaraderie." Ms. Allen said this year they are also planning to start a Fantasy Football program and perhaps organize trips to football games. Football season will wrap up with the annual Super Bowl party. This year's scheduled date for the Super Bowl is February 1, 2009. For more information, visit www.325thservices.com.
