Tyndall operations scheduled to evolve Published June 11, 2008 By Staff Sgt. Vesta M. Anderson 325th Fighter Wing Public Affairs TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- Tyndall Air Force Base personnel will initiate the Global Wing Structure Program Action Directive 08-01, realigning the wing's maintenance units under their respective fighter squadrons, Aug. 1. According to Air Force Print News, Gen. Michael Moseley, Air Force chief of staff, signed PAD 08-01 May 12. The directive will structure Air Force units by mission, instead of function. "The main thrust is that all sortie generation activities will transfer to the 325th Operations Group," said Col. William Mott, 325th Operations Group commander. From there, the commander said, the 325th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron will stand down and the aircraft maintenance units will transfer to their respective fighter squadrons. "Aircraft maintenance is an important element of a flying squadron's mission, and crew chiefs and other maintainers that directly support sortie generation belong in that chain of command," said General Moseley in an announcement made December 2007. Additionally, several of the current MXG staff functions will transfer to the OG, explained Col. Hall, 325th Maintenance Group commander . The final step will be the 325th MXG stand down, which will allow the new 325th Materiel Group to become established and take on the remaining maintenance functions. According to Air Force guidance, materiel groups will enhance logistics enterprise integration at the wing level by aligning logistics readiness squadrons and remaining maintenance squadrons under one group commander. "All Airmen can expect to see new units stand up with some units standing down," said Colonel Hall. "Some Airmen will see chains of command change with new squadrons or group commanders, but if we do this right, these organizational changes will be transparent to most while we focus on our mission." Air Force leaders emphasize that despite organizational changes, the mission will not change. Between the 325th OG and the 325th MTG, Tyndall's training mission will continue to provide the best F-22 Raptor and F-15C Eagle pilots, air battle managers, and intelligence professionals to the combatant commanders, said the maintenance commander. "Living the Air Force Core Values is always a great way to ground ourselves as our Air Force evolves," said Colonel Hall.
