The Tyndall Air Force Base Dormitory Council is scheduled to host a block party 1 p.m. Saturday outside of building 1149, near the volleyball courts, for all Tyndall dormitory residents.

The party is being held to help build morale of dorm residents and to promote the dorm council.

"The block party is about building a sense of ownership within the dorm areas," said Chief Master Sgt. Benjamin Van Vleet, 325th Fighter Wing command chief master sergeant. "It's their home and we want them to have a safe and clean living area that they're proud of."

Airman 1st Class Danielle Dupuis, 325th Air Control Squadron pilot simulator and dorm council president said there will be plenty of food and many activities including basketball games, volleyball matches, a deejay and a dunk booth at the party. She also said the Top Three organization is planning on brining some prizes such as IPods.

"We also would like to have a tug-o-war competition," Airman Dupuis said. "We're trying to organize a dorm resident versus first sergeants match."

Airman Dupuis said she hopes the party can help the dorm residents get acquainted with each other.

"It should help to get to know who your neighbors are," she said. "A lot of people in the dorms don't even know who they live next to."

Both Airman Dupuis and Airman 1st Class Antonio McQueen, Maintenance Squadron apprentice and dorm council vice president said they'd like to see more people get active in the dorm council as a result of the party.

"Dorm council allows for our voice to be heard by the base's senior leaders," Airman McQueen said. "We're essentially a mouthpiece for dorm residents that helps to improve our living conditions."
