The annual 325th Fighter Wing Safety Day scheduled for May 23 is jam-packed with events emphasizing safety in the coming summer months, just in time for Memorial Day weekend.

"The summer months have historically been a time when the number of accidents and resulting fatalities increase Air Force-wide," said Lt. Col. Malcolm Kemeny, 325th FW Safety chief. "Safety Day is designed to inform and educate Airmen about summertime risks and how to mitigate those risks."

The day kicks off with the Commander's Fitness Challenge and a mandatory Runway Fun Run for all military personnel at 7:15 a.m. on the flightline. Civilians are welcome to participate.

"Individuals can take the Air Force fitness test in competition with the 325th Fighter Wing commander," said Colonel Kemeny. "Anyone who ties or beats the commander's composite score will receive a three-day pass."

After the fitness test competition, the entire wing will form up on the flightline for the Runway Fun Run and then report to Hangar 1 to view Safety Day exhibits and attend a 9 a.m. commander's call by Col. Darryl Roberson, 325 FW commander. A second commander's call will be held at the CAC Annex at 10 a.m. for personnel who cannot make the first call.

"After the commander's calls, Airmen will be released back to their squadrons for squadron safety events and activities," said Colonel Kemeny. "The Wing will then have events lined up for the afternoon."

Afternoon events include a motorcycle safety refresher session at noon at the parking lot across from the base pool, Safety Day exhibits set up at Heritage Park at 2 p.m. and a Safety Day wrap-up by Colonel Roberson at 3 p.m. at Heritage Park.

"We hope the day is informative, yet fun," said Colonel Kemeny. "We want people to walk away with safety being at the forefront of all they do, over the extended weekend, throughout the coming months and always."

Bus schedule and pick-up points for morning events:
Buses will depart at 6:30 a.m. at the Base Support Building (Bldg 662), the Community Activity Center, the 325th Air Control Squadron schoolhouse and the Medical Facility.
Buses will return personnel to the above places following the 9 a.m. commander's call.
