The Tyndall Officers' Spouses' Club awarded $8,000 in academic scholarships to six Air Force family members at a reception Tuesday at the Heritage Club.

High school seniors Sierra Seaman, David Mudge and Sean Hicks and Air Force spouses Ronnica Amour, Andrea Oliver and Anna Moore were selected out of a pool of 28 scholarship applicants.

Two $2,000 scholarships and four $1,000 scholarships were awarded to the individuals.
The scholarships are awarded annually, said Nicole Van Pelt, OSC president, who said she felt lucky to be the one to give away the scholarship money.

The money was obtained through OSC Tyndall Thrift Shop sales and various fundraisers throughout the year, said Debra Reed, OSC scholarship committee chairperson.

"It's a good feeling knowing that we are helping other military families further their education," said Mrs. Reed.

Sierra Seaman and Sean Hicks, both Mosley High School seniors, said they were glad the OSC can support them in their future aspirations and the scholarships will make a huge difference in their ability to attend a university.

Ronnica Armour, spouse of Senior Airman Marqus Armour, 325th Aero-Medical Dental Squadron, said she won the scholarship by writing an essay on the greatest challenge the military is facing today.

"I'm excited about it," said Mrs. Armour, referring to the scholarship.

Andrea Oliver, spouse of Senior Airman Thomas Oliver, 325th Operations Support Squadron, also said she was excited and very thankful.

"It will help out going into my last semester of nursing," said Mrs. Oliver.

Col. Darryl Roberson, 325th Fighter Wing commander, congratulated the recipients and thanked the OSC for taking the time and effort to raise the money to make these scholarships possible.

Family members of active-duty or retired military pursuing an associate or bachelor's degree are eligible for the scholarship, said Mrs. Reed. Applicants must include a 300-word essay with their application.
