The Berg-Liles Dining Facility, which closed February 29, will reopen for service later this month following renovation of the facility's plumbing system.

"The plumbing system in the dining facility is being renovated to ensure quality service continues for our Airmen," said Lt. Col. Michael Lamb, 325th Services Squadron commander. Continued commitment to improving our Airmen's quality of life on Tyndall is a top priority and a mission the 325th Services Squadron takes very seriously, he said.

While the closure may be inconvenient to some, the 325th Service Squadron thanks Team Tyndall for patiently standing by until the project is complete.

Renovations and repairs to the facility's plumbing system include replacing older cast iron plumbing lines with new PVC piping, which is less prone to corrosion, said Mr. Harry Britts, 325th Civil Engineer Squadron Sabre Element chief. The new plumbing material will replace older lines in need of repair, thereby allowing water to pump freely through the system, he said.

"April 23 is the target date for reopening the facility," said 1st Lt. Patrick Wilkinson, 325th Services Squadron Combat Support flight commander. "On that day, barring any delays, Tyndall's Airmen will once again be able to enjoy the Berg's famous Mongolian barbecue, heritage meals and sandwich bar."

When our customers walk into the Berg-Liles Dining Facility on April 23, they won't necessarily notice any aesthetic changes, as all repairs were made to pipes below the tile flooring in the kitchen and behind the service line, said Lieutenant Wilkinson. Airmen will hopefully understand that the repairs made to the facility will ensure efficient plumbing operations for years to come, he said.

"This project was accomplished efficiently thanks to tremendous support from the 325th Civil Engineer Squadron and the 325th Contacting Squadron," said Lieutenant Wilkinson. "Because of their support, we'll be able to open our doors to our customers in an extremely timely manner."

Airmen who qualify as Essential Station Messing meal card holders (meaning they reside in dormitories and eat meals from the dining facility regularly) have been receiving an allowance to purchase their meals from the commissary or other establishments since the dining hall closed in February. While the dining hall is slated to reopen April 23, all meal card holders will continue to receive the subsistence allowance until May 1.
