Members of the 325th Fighter Wing can stand proud, as the unit is once again the recipient of the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award for exceptionally meritorious service.

This is the 11th time the unit has received the award, which covers a period between one and two years. The inclusive dates for the current award are from July 1, 2006 to June 30, 2007.

"This prestigious award recognizes the daily contributions of the dedicated men and women who successfully execute our mission - to train expeditionary airpower experts who will guarantee air dominance," said Brig. Gen. Tod Wolters, 325th Fighter Wing commander. "I'm truly proud of this team of professionals and all they have achieved over the past year."

According to the accompanying citation, the wing produced more than 15,000 sorties in excess of 27,000 flying hours, contributing to the successful training of more than 200 F-22 Raptor pilots, F-15 Eagle pilots, air battle managers, air traffic controllers and intelligence personnel for the combat air forces. In addition, Tyndall became the first operational Raptor unit to fly 5,000 hours with a 99.7 percent uptime rate.
The base also led the Air Force by installing the first digital mammography capability, saving thousands of dollars by reducing the number of off-base referrals.

Finally, 390 combat-ready warriors deployed, providing life-saving convoy escort, detainee security, explosive ordnance disposal, financial and services operations critical to the success of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.

All personnel assigned or attached to the unit during the period indicated are authorized the appropriate ribbon if they directly contributed to the mission and accomplishments of the unit. Civilians assigned during the inclusive dates are also entitled to list the award on their personnel briefs and receive an appropriate recognition pin. Individuals in student or training status here during the inclusive dates are not entitled to wear the ribbon.

The Tyndall Military Personnel Flight has automatically updated personnel records with the award information, according to Maj. Joseph Schneider, 325th MPF commander. Active duty personnel, previously assigned to the 325th FW during the inclusive dates will need to contact their servicing MPF to get their records updated.

The 325th Civilian Personnel Flight will automatically update applicable civilian records, which will reflect in the civilian career brief, according to Melanie McGuire, Tyndall civilian personnel officer. Organizational units may use unit funds to purchase civilian recognition pins through the Defense Supply System, reference stock number 8455-00-891-8529.
