Annual award winners announced

TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- The 2007 Team Tyndall Annual Awards were announced at a special ceremony here Friday. The 325th Fighter Wing and associate unit annual awards were also announced and winners from each category competed for the Team Tyndall awards.

Congratulations to the following award winners:

Team Tyndall award winners

Honor Guard member of the year: Airman 1st Class Darnell Jones, 325th Communications Squadron

Category I volunteer of the year: Marilyn Marsh, 325th Aeromedical-Dental Squadron
Among other accomplishments, Ms. Marsh led 12 retirement ceremonies and 10 farewells. She also led three Medical Group booster club fundraisers and managed the family practice booth at retiree appreciation day.

Category II volunteer of the year: Tech. Sgt. Lori Shackleford, 325th Aeromedical-Dental Squadron
Among other accomplishments, Sergeant Shackleford instructed at the United Sports Academy Baseball camp, taught 64 hours to promote and enhance physical fitness as a lifestyle and assisted with retiree appreciation day.

Airman of the year: Senior Airman Amanda Perkins, Air Force Rescue Coordination Center
Among other accomplishments, Airman Perkins managed 368 potential distress cases and was the Air Operations Center's first enlisted honor graduate, scoring a 99.3 percent on her initial qualification training.

NCO of the year: Tech. Sgt. Timothy Gutierrez, 83rd Fighter Weapons Squadron
Among other accomplishments, Sergeant Gutierrez was selected as the 83rd FWS NCO and administrative professional of the quarter for the second and fourth quarters of 2007. He also led a five person team to test the upcoming F-35 Joint Service Fighter's threat warning pod.

Senior NCO of the year: Senior Master Sgt. David Smith, 325th Contracting Squadron
Among other accomplishments, Sergeant Smith was Air Education and Training Command's 2007 senior NCO of the year. He deployed as a contract operation review leader while mentoring 146 troops and managing $4.4 billion in contracts to support 14 forward operating bases in Iraq.

First Sergeant of the year: Master Sgt. Dennis Robison, 325th Civil Engineer Squadron
Among other accomplishments, Sergeant Robison served as the first sergeant council president and led 19 first sergeants through 53 meetings and a $15k budget to fix 159 issues. He also initiated the first send off and return deployer decompression program, leading 45 deployers to zero domestic or financial issues.

Company grade officer of the year: Capt. Laura Griggs, 325th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron
Among other accomplishments, Captain Griggs was twice named the AMXS company grade officer of the quarter in 2007. She set the Air Force "Eagle" safety record with 140,000 hours with no class "A" mishaps. She also managed the entire Maintenance Group for three weekend periods, coordinating 1,000 man-hours, 19 Air Force specialty codes in four squadrons and supporting 84 aircraft.

Category one civilian of the year: Gloria Fritz, 325th Medical Group
Among other accomplishments, during the third quarter of 2007, Ms. Fritz was selected as 325th FW's civilian of the quarter. She was runner-up in AETC for diabetic screening and control and processed 1,200 encounters appointments.

Category two civilian of the year: James Podolske, Air Force Civil Engineer Support Agency
Among other accomplishments, Mr. Podolske led 6,000 emergency responders at 94 installations through a critical transformation era. He filled two senior civilian slots in 2007, leading the first documented refined response capability.
