Tigers slay dragons Published Nov. 8, 2007 By Courtesy of the Tyndall Tigers 325th Fighter Wing TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- The Tyndall Air Force Base Tigers (3-1) men's varsity basketball team took on the home-standing Keesler Dragons (2-2) and came away with a 72-54 victory in the Southeastern Military Athletic Conference on Saturday afternoon. The two squads engaged in a hotly contested defensive struggle throughout the first half, until Tyndall went on a 8-0 run to close out the scoring in the first half and take a 33-24 lead. In the second half, Tyndall combined an aggressive defensive effort with timely shooting to maintain a double-figure lead throughout the majority of the final stanza as the Tigers refused to allow the Dragons the opportunity to mount a comeback as they cruised to the win. Anthony Showers led the Tigers in scoring with a game high 21 points, followed by Mel Smith scoring 14, Marcelle Mosley scoring 11, and Chris Walker with 10 points. Marqus Armour led in rebounding with eight along with seven blocked shots, and Smith led with five assists. Kenny Dukes led Keesler in scoring with 19 points. The Tigers travel to Jacksonville, Fla. this weekend to take on the Hurricanes from Naval Station Mayport.
