Lady Tigers defeat Keesler

The Tyndall Air Force Base Lady Tigers (4-0) women's varsity basketball team downed the host Lady Dragons of Keesler AFB (1-2) 67-57 in Southeastern Military Athletic Conference action on Saturday. 

The Lady Tigers got off to a slow start as the Lady Dragons took an 8-0 lead before the Lady Tigers got on the scoreboard. Tiffanie Guthrie and Richere Harrison scored 11 and 8 points respectively as the Lady Tigers battled back to take a 6-point advantage, 33-27 at the intermission. In the second half, the Lady Dragons took a 1-point lead with 10:47 remaining. After a time out the Lady Tigers went on a 19-7 run to take a 63-52 lead with 3:40 remaining in the contest, keyed by the clutch shooting of Sandra Williams and Lisa Gamble, who each connected on two out of three three-pointers during the run. Tyndall went into its delay game and maintained their double-digit lead to take the hard fought victory. 

Tiffanie Guthrie led five Lady Tigers in double-figure scoring with a game high 20 points, followed by Sandra Williams and Lisa Gamble with 13 points each, and Richere Harrison and Mariela Miles with 10 points each. Guthrie also led the team in both rebounds and assists with 10 and 6 respectively, to go with 6 steals, and Anette Sharpe had 4 blocked shots. Erica Martin paced Keesler in scoring with 15 points.
With their 4-0 record, the Lady Tigers stand alone at the top of the conference standings. The Lady Tigers will return to the hardwood on Dec. 8, as they host the ladies from Moody AFB.
