TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- The Tyndall Air Force Base Tigers men's varsity basketball team lost their season opening game to the Moody Air Force Base Flying Tigers this past weekend, 85-81.
In Saturday's action, Tyndall jumped out to an early lead and led for the majority of the first half only to see Moody go on a late run to take a 41-40 lead at the intermission. In the second half, the Tigers seized control of the contest as they built a 10-point lead with 12 minutes remaining in the contest. Tyndall's self inflicted wounds - untimely turnovers and faulty free throw shooting - enabled Moody to stay in the game and take advantage of Tyndall's miscues. Moody took the lead for good, 82-81, with 55 seconds remaining in the contest. On their last three possessions of the game, the Tigers had two turnovers and a missed three pointer. Moody converted 3 out of 4 free throws to secure the 85-81 victory.
Anthony Showers paced the Tigers in scoring with a game-high 22 points, followed by Marqus Armour with 12 points and T.J. Miller and Melvin Smith with 11points. Showers led the team in assists with four and Miller led in rebounding with 13. Clint Williams led Moody in scoring with 21 points.
The Tigers and Lady Tigers will host the men's and women's teams from Eglin Air Force Base Oct. 20. The women's basketball team plays at 2 p.m. and the men's game is at 4 p.m. For more information, call the fitness center at 283-2631.
