The GMH Military Housing office is offering the Tyndall community the opportunity to rent a house under similar conditions they find off base, but with the security and convenience of living on base.

"Homes are available now for rental on base. There are no wait times for two and three bedroom homes. And there are no application fees or security deposits required," said Teri Henry, Tyndall GMH Community Manager

"We can save military members money on deposits, utilities and rent, when they choose to lease a home on base with GMH," said Henry

Instead of the traditional base housing most military members have become accustomed to, members are now required to sign a lease with GMH and can expect most of the same services they expect from a landlord in the local community.

When residents move in to the GMH community, they are given an orientation that will explain the terms of their lease and tenant expectations. By signing the lease, they agree to abide by its terms and those that are outlined in the GMH Resident Guide.

In addition to customer service similar to off-base housing, residents can also expect the same penalties for violating the terms of their lease including early termination fees. "There are no fees for residents with military orders however, early termination by a resident for other causes, require the resident to pay an amount equal to one month of rent" said Henry.

Some of the policies from the old base-housing system have remained in place. Residents can expect to receive a Discrepancy Notice for minor violations such as failing to mow the fenced in portion of their yard, placing trash in proper areas, parking violations and other minor infractions according to the resident guide.

"We will be asking all residents for their assistance to help us improve the appearance of their yards, patios and driveways," said Henry. Free grass seed is still available in the GMH Self Help Store on Prime Beef Road and watering schedules are outlined in the Resident Guide, when the base watering restrictions are not in effect.

"Our website has a great deal of information to assist residents with the GMH policies, including our Resident Guide, Frequently Asked Questions, Forms and pet addendum with restricted breeds", said Henry.
