The Pentagon Channel will launch today on Mediacom Communication's channel 4 in the local Panama City area.

The Pentagon Channel, which is the Department of Defense's cable television channel, broadcasts military news and information for and about the 2.6 million members of the U.S. Armed Forces: Active Duty, Guard, and Reserve.

The channel airs live coverage of military conferences, news reports and updates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

"Mediacom's decision to carry the Pentagon Channel on their line up in  Wewahitchka helps us fulfill our mission of providing timely military news and information to the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces." said Brian Natwick, Pentagon Channel general manager.

The Pentagon Channel brings live Department of Defense news briefings in full, interviews with top Defense officials, short stories about the duties of our military, important information about military benefits, and programs from each branch of the service.

The Pentagon Channel targets service members, their families and other interested viewers with military news and events.

"The Pentagon Channel is a tremendous outlet to inform and educate not only service members and their families, but now the general public as well," said 1st Lt. Amanda Ferrell, 325th Fighter Wing chief of media relations. "The information made available to the public through the Pentagon Channel is vital in our efforts to educate the local community about current military operations."

The Pentagon Channel's flagship programs include "Around the Services," a look at what's going on at each branch of the military, and "RECON," a half-hour informational program providing an in-depth look on a variety of topics from real world operations, missions and military events.

The Pentagon Channel is currently available on 337 stateside military installations, including Tyndall. The Pentagon Channel is broadcast overseas in 177 countries for U.S. service members and their families via American Forces Radio and Television Service.

"The benefits of broadcasting the Pentagon Channel to our local community are numerous," said Lieutenant Ferrell. "Local retirees will have a link to current military events, service members will have access to topics their brethren are engaged in, and the local community will have a source of information about the military members they work and live with side-by-side in our community."

The Pentagon Channel is also streamed live, available via video-on-demand online, and is podcasted at pentagonchannel.mil.
