Extended library hours for extended knowledge Published Jan. 27, 2016 By Senior Airman Solomon Cook 325th Fighter Wing Public Affairs TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- After a 2015 survey, the Base Library has extended hours of operation to meet customers' needs. "Prior to Sept. 15, 2015, we were open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; however, now on Tuesday's and Thursday's we have extended hours and are open until 6 p.m.," said Mark Rix, Chief, and Force Development Flight for the 325th Force Support Squadron. The extended hours allows Airmen and their families a better opportunity to use this base facility during a time in the day that will better meet their needs. "We strongly value our customers, listened to the feedback they provided us and acted on their requests," Rix said. "Additionally, we had to weigh Department of Defense budget constraints to ensure we were being fiscally responsible to taxpayers and customers that support our program. We went through weeks of survey analysis and weighing various hour options to ensure the best service hours possible for local demand." "With the new hours, we have noticed a significant increase of foot traffic in the library," Rix said. "Folks are coming over after they shop at the Base Exchange or commissary and checking out movies and books. Airmen are stopping by once they leave work and checking out audio books. Also, we noticed people visiting the base are stopping to read the local newspaper, use our computer lab to check personal emails to pay bills and search the internet." The library is here to provide access to knowledge and information which support the Air Force's mission of readiness, education and quality of life programs, Rix added. "I think the Tyndall community would be very surprised by all of the free resources and services the library has to offer," Rix said. "Stop by and check us out!" Rix said he was excited at the potential to better serve Tyndall personnel and their families. He summarized his thoughts with a quote from Henri Frederic Amiel, a Swiss philosopher, poet and critic. "Everything you need for better a future and success has already been written. And guess what? All you have to do is go to the library."
