The Tyndall Youth Center is slated to host a Winter Wonderland Ball Dec. 18 at the Tyndall Youth Center.

The event serves as a kickoff for a series of events that will cater to preteens and teens each month, including Teens Night Out in January and the preteen Valentine's Dance in February. The Winter Wonderland Ball is a formal dance that will be held from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Dec. 18 at the youth center gym.

"The Preteen Ball will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and the Teen Ball will be held from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.," said Benjamin Sala, 325th Force Support Squadron Tyndall Youth Center professional. "The fee will be $10 for youth center members and $15 for non-members.  Everyone will need to have a permission form signed by their parents, and we are asking to have all permission slips and payment to us by close of business on Dec. 16."

Planners for the event want it to feel like a mix between a holiday party and homecoming.  The gym will be decorated with garlands and other decorations to evoke the spirit of the holidays, but with fun music to dance to, Sala added.

The ball will be chaperoned by youth center employees as well as volunteers. Food and beverages will also be available, but a full meal will not be provided.

"Since the event is a formal dance, we do ask that the youths wear formal attire," Sala said. "Although there will not be any group games played, there may be some contests throughout the evening."

The playlist will consist primarily of current, danceable songs and all songs will be clean versions, Sala added.

Sala and the youth center staff are looking for  volunteers to make these  events a success.

"We can always use a handful of one-time volunteers for any of our events that occur," Sala said. "If people want to get involved they can call the Tyndall Youth Center at (850) 283-4366."
