Tyndall held two spouses town halls geared toward providing spouses of Airmen essential information about helpful programs and offices around the base Mar. 16 and 17 at the Heritage Club.

Commanders and subject matter experts from the 325th Medical Group, 325th Civil Engineer Squadron, 325th Force Support Squadron, Tyndall Integrated Delivery System, Airmen and Family Readiness Center TRICARE and Balfour Beatty were in attendance to provide information, answer questions and help with any issues attendees might have.

"We've been here a year, and I learned things during the town hall that I never knew," said Tracey Gainey, 325th Maintenance Squadron member spouse. "It was awesome. And really made us feel important."

Among the topics discussed were: medical appointments, informational smart phone apps and a class to help spouses get acclimated to the base.

The issue of bears in base housing was heavily discussed in the meetings.

Donald Jenkins, 325th CES conservation officer, stressed that preventing bears from becoming a nuisance starts with the residence. Bears go where there is an easily accessible food source.

Securing your garbage cans in the garage and placing them at the curb just before pickup as well as eliminating other food sources such as grills or dog food is paramount. If you do not have a garage, retrofitting the cans with bearproofing clamps can be an essential deterrent.

More information on bear prevention and retrofitting of garbage cans can be found at www.MyFWC.com.

Colonel Derek C. France, 325th Fighter Wing commander, hosted both town halls.

"The purpose of having these town halls is to provide a forum where the agencies and personnel that take care of our Airmen and their families present some new or often misunderstood information and provide the opportunity for spouses to ask questions," said France during the town hall.

After the town hall, France and the other presenters were available for one-on-one discussion and assistance.

"Everything that we discussed is about taking care of the people that get the mission done, the Airmen or the families and spouses that support them every day," said France. "You have my personal thanks for everything that you do."
