Gulf Coast State College or GCSC will be providing a new military scholarship March 11 to eliminate school fees for active duty and reserve students.

"Gulf Coast, like many other schools, has fees not related to course instruction," said Mark Rix, Gulf Coast director of Military and Veterans Services. "As of Oct. 1, military tuition assistance no longer pays for fees. This scholarship reduces the out-of-pocket tuition expenses to zero for service members while they use military tuition assistance."

This scholarship is available to service members of all branches.

"Military students, active and reserve, must be eligible for undergraduate military tuition assistance from their respective branch of service and in good academic standing," Rix said. "Students should ensure their military tuition assistance is approved by their branch of service in accordance with the application timelines and other policies."

Funds were raised throughout the year by donors who support the GCSC Foundation, Rix added.

Unlike the new tuition assistance program, the new scholarship will not require supervisor approval, although, additional steps are needed to obtain the scholarship.

"There is no application to complete to apply for the scholarship," Rix said. "Students must provide a copy of their military tuition assistance form to the GCSC business office or the GCSC office on Tyndall to receive this scholarship."
