For the Airmen, by the Airmen

Sometimes Airmen fall on hard times: their car breaks down, they have a death in the family or some other emergency comes along. Who else better to take care of these individuals than their brothers and sisters in arms?

Members of Team Tyndall will be collecting donations for the Air Force Assistance Fund from March 2 to April 10 with an overall goal of $63,287.

The AFAF is a campaign that collects for four charities designed to help Airmen and their families that are in need: The LeMay Foundation, the Air Force Aid Society, the Air Force Villages Charitable Foundation and the Air Force Enlisted Village. Contributors can donate to the charity of their choice, but all four organizations are in place to help Airmen, past or present, and their families.

"Chief Lantagne and I hope that every Team Tyndall Airman considers the opportunity to 'pay it forward' to these four worthy charities," said Col. Derek C. France, 325th FW commander. "Just a few dollars a month from your paycheck will ensure your fellow Airmen will have the assistance they need when they need it most."

The campaign will begin Mar. 2 with an AFAF Kick-Off event from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Heritage Club. There will be refreshments, and representatives will be on hand to take the first of Team Tyndall's donations.

The next AFAF event will be a bowling tournament March 13 during the next Comprehensive Airman Fitness Day. Participants can compete in the tournament in conjunction to the day's sports activities. Entry will be $15 a person for four games. All proceeds from the tournament will be contributed to the AFAF.

During the campaign, unit representatives will come to each shop to answer questions and take donations with a goal of 100 percent contact with Tyndall's Airmen. Contributors can donate by having an allotment deducted from their pay over time or with a lump some of the desired amount.

"Please support the Air Force's only fundraiser that gives money back solely to Air Force members," said Master Sgt. Adam Lloyd, AFAF assistant installation project officer/325th Aerospace Medical Squadron Bioenvironmental Engineering flight chief. "This program survives because of the Airmen that donate time and money to the AFAF. Without us the program would go away."

For more information, to help or to contribute to the AFAF, Airmen can get with their unit's representative or contact 1st Lt. Paul Mayers, AFAF installation project officer/325th Communications Squadron Plans Flight deputy flight commander.

"We have a very short window to get this accomplished," said Lloyd. "Please work with your unit's representative in a timely manner for 100 percent contact and any donations."

*Reminder: No other squadron/office fund raising events are allowed during the AFAF campaign.
