The 325th Civil Engineer Squadron Natural Resources Flight is scheduled to conduct a controlled burn on Tyndall Air Force Base Sunday, Feb. 8, between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. The burn will include approximately 1500 acres of the Tyndall Reservation north of the main runway, south and east of East Bay, and west of a large canal.

Prescribed fires are necessary to reduce fuels for potential wildfires that could impact Tyndall's mission to "train and project unrivaled combat power."

Every safety precaution has been taken to prepare for the prescribed burns, and further safety measures are in place to keep it contained.

Given wind conditions and the techniques used by CE, smoke is expected to blow northeast over the bay, and exposure should not present a concern.

Media with questions about the prescribed burn can contact 2nd Lt. Christopher Bowyer-Meeder, 325th Fighter Wing Public Affairs, at (850) 283-4500 or Tyndall's Command Post at (850) 283-2155.

Information on controlled burns at Tyndall can be viewed here or Tyndall's Facebook page.
