The Enlisted and Officer Spouses Clubs gathered more than 450 dozen cookies Dec. 8 at the base commissary to give out some holiday cheer to Airmen living in the dormitories.

"The Cookie Caper is a chance for us to bring a little bit of home to the Airmen here," said Kasia Gilbert, 95th Fighter Squadron commander's wife. "It's a chance for the community to reach out and touch the lives of the Airmen by bringing them home-baked cookies."

Another group who helped in a big way was Tyndall Elementary.

"They decorated the cookie bags beautifully for the Airmen," said Amanda France, wife of Derek C. France, 325th Fighter Wing commander. "They adorned them with penguins, rainbows, F-22 Raptors, snowmen and whatever they thought represented the Air Force and holidays."

This event has become a tradition for the spouses to organize and help collect cookies.

"The response every year is great," said Gilbert. "It is always busy during this time and anything that we can get is wonderful. I think it is important to remember why we do it and to keep that in mind every year."

Not all Airmen get to spend time with their families during the holidays and this is a way to show them they still have one here.

This is a chance for us to show them how much they are appreciated and how much we want to be a part of their military family, said France.

This event had many unit volunteers from the 325th FW staff, first sergeants group, to all the people who helped bake cookies.

"Next year we just hope to have more cookies," said France. "The cookies smelled and looked great, and we think the Airmen are going to be happy with their cookie packages."

The spouses would like to thank the commissary and all the volunteers who made and donated cookies for all the Airmen in the dorms.
