TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. - --
Veterans Day is a day to honor not just the sacrifices, but also the heroism of the men and women in military uniforms. It is a day to thank those still living and remember those who have passed.
Veterans Day was originally named Armistice Day in 1919 and renamed in 1938. According to va.gov it was originally to honor the end of WWI, but with the approval of Public Law 380 on June 1, 1954, November 11th became a day to honor American veterans of all wars.
"Veterans Day is a day for the public to serve veterans and come out to show their appreciation and support," said Jay Latey, Bay County Veterans county president and retired member of the Air Force.
During this year's Veterans Day Parade in Panama City, members of Team Tyndall marched in remembrance of those brave men and women.
"It allows us to take advantage of few times we, as members who currently wear the uniform, get to serve with all those who wore the uniform before us and those who will wear the uniform in the future; even though it's only for a few hours," said Master Sgt. Derrick Bennett, Airman Leadership School commandant. "It was an opportunity to showcase the epitome of excellence, professionalism, pride and competence Team Tyndall stands for."
A wreath laying ceremony was held after the parade. Col. Derek C. France, 325th Fighter Wing commander, and the Color Guard of Mosely High School Marine Corps. Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps., escorted the wreath to its place.
