Flu season is upon us and Tyndall Airmen can receive their yearly flu-shot at the 325th Medical Group.

Airmen can get their shots Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the immunization/allergy clinic. Starting Nov. 3 the shots will be available for beneficiaries.

Flu season usually begins during the Fall and last until Winter.

"The mission is to get 100 percent of all Airmen the flu vaccine to protect them," said Master Sgt.  Craig Hutchinson, 325th MDG Family Health flight chief.

According to flu.gov, seasonal flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by flu viruses. It spreads between people and can cause mild to severe illness and in some cases can lead to death. Approximately five to 20 percent of U.S. residents get it each year.

"The risk of not receiving the vaccine is possibly getting the flu," said Hutchinson. "This leads to serious health complications, possibly being out of work for a while and in a worst case scenario, death. This could put Airmen and families in danger and impede our mission here at Tyndall."
