Local festivals and fireworks for the Fourth Published June 26, 2014 325th Fighter Wing Public Affairs TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- Independence Day is almost here, and there are several areas around Tyndall where Airmen can celebrate with friends and families. Pier Park over the water- The fireworks are scheduled for 9 p.m. The day's festivities start at noon with the mayor kicking off festivities followed by a military aircraft flyover. Activities and FREE concerts will continue up to the fireworks show. Historic Grand Lagoon- The fireworks are scheduled for 8:30 p.m. Local restaurants there offer great seating visibility for the 4th of July Festivities. However, it's always a good idea to inquire on seating availability status, if planning a dinner on the lagoon area for the Fourth. Panama City Marina- The fireworks are scheduled for 9 p.m. The day's festivities begin at 11:00 a.m. with the Centennial Big Splash and events continue through the night ending with the fireworks display. Fireworks will be launched from two individual barges versus just the one as previously used. There is also a block party on Harrison Avenue Scheduled to celebrate the 4th festivities. City Of Lynn Haven- The fireworks are scheduled for 9 p.m. Family fun festivities at Sheffield Park & A.L. Kinsaul Park begin at 7 a.m. with the Lion's Club pancake breakfast. It's then followed by the flag raising ceremony at City Hall, a welcome from the mayor, a bike parade, Beauties on the Bay Car Show, horseshoe contest, watermelon eating contest, and various other festivities. Mexico Beach- The fireworks are scheduled for 8:30 p.m. (CST) The day begins early with a 5k fun run at Under the Palms Park on 7th Street. All ages are invited to participate in this family fun event. Pre-registration is now open and all those who register before July 2 will receive a race day t-shirt. Registration price will change at noon on July 2 and t-shirts will be available but not guaranteed in the requested size. The day's festivities include games, some small rides and food. There is a free kid's fishing tournament from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Canal Park. Kids ages two to 14 are invited to bring their fishing poles and try to catch the biggest fish. Hot dogs, chips and drinks will be provided to the young anglers and their families. Note: Events may be postponed or canceled due to inclement weather. Watch your local news for more information.
