TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. --
The Tyndall Youth Activities Center hosted an Olympic-style archery class June 16 to 20 at the youth center.
The class contained 32 children who learned basic skills such as appropriate stance, anchor points and releases, Andrew Wallace said, 325th Force Support Squadron youth sports and fitness director.
"The archery class emphasizes the basics of Olympic-style archery to boys and girls ages 7-18," said Wallace. "The class exposes youth to a lifetime individual sport that is great for the whole family."
"Participants shoot at 48 inch round stationary targets and use traditional recurve bows, with distances being increased each day." said Wallace.
Coarse admission was $20 and was held over a four-day span with each class running for an hour and a half. The class ended with individual and team archery tournaments.
"Archery is a lifetime individual sport that emphasizes balance, focus, patience and goal setting," Wallace said. "Youth are not required to have superior coordination to succeed in archery, and this gives many an opportunity to enjoy a sport without the pressure of being the fastest or strongest."
"The class was fun," said Marisa Stahl, daughter of Retired Lt. Col. Laura Stahl. "I would like to do archery more often. My mom is going to buy a target."
Another class will be held July 7 to 10.
