TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. --
The Tyndall Single Airmen Programming Initiative is slated to host a free scuba class June 26 to 29 for Airmen.
The Single Airman Programming Initiative is an Air Force program, endorsed by the office of the Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force, administered by Air Force Personnel Center, and operated through installation Force Support Squadrons.
This program is geared towards Airmen to aid them in finding recreational and social events to attend.
"The Single Airmen Programs Initiative's objective is to improve technology and communication within FSS programs and activities," said Karalee Duckworth, 325th Force Support Squadron marketing commercial sponsorship manager. "We provide a wide variety of social and recreation opportunities through FSS recreational activities, and offer morale, welfare and readiness life-skills classes. These classes create a single Airman culture that supports the whole person, focusing on a healthy lifestyle."
The goal is to provide resources that foster a strong culture, mission, and sense of community for single Airmen, Duckworth added.
Started in 2012, the Single Airman Programming Initiative is currently providing classes and events to Airmen, most recently hosting scuba classes.
At the conclusion of the course Airmen are scuba certified and go on their first dive.
"I attended one of the previous classes, and I thoroughly enjoyed the diving experience," said Airman 1st Class Joseph Hartsfiled, 325th Communications Squadron enterprise information management technician. "Going scuba diving was an amazing feat that I can now cross off my bucket list. I saw a lot of marine life, including a huge Grouper fish and a gigantic turtle. I would definitely recommend this to a friend."
More programs and events are scheduled to occur throughout the year, such as:
· Deep Sea Fishing Trip - July 14 and August 23
· Sky Diving adventures - July and August
· Orlando Trip - July
· Casino Night - August 9
"It gives Airmen the opportunity to get out and explore their surroundings, to find a new hobby, to make new friendships and to support their person as a whole," Duckworth said. "I believe this is a great program for our Airmen and it helps foster a sense of community for a younger generation of Airmen."
