TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. --
The Heritage Club hosted a special event for Father's Day June 12 at the Heritage Clubs ballroom.
The Daddy Daughter Dance started five years ago and is hosted right before Father's Day. The dance has approximately 200 people in attendance every year.
"It first started with a dance to celebrate Father's Day, but it has turned into much more than that," said Vanessa Ogletree, 325th Force Support Squadron marketing office public affairs specialist. "Now it's viewed as a day where dads can create a lasting, special and magical memory with their little princesses; just the two of them."
The event has support throughout the base.
"We've received much support for the Daddy Daughter Dance from wing leadership and families too," Ogletree said. "This is our fifth year in a row doing the event, and we've heard nothing but great feedback from moms, who dress up their little girls, and the dads who attend."
For one father it was a dance he would not forget.
"It was special for me to be with my daughter at this event," said Tech. Sgt. Jason Stockslager, 1st Air Force, Air Forces Northern intelligence analyst. "I will be deploying for a year in a few months and this is one of the last things she and I will get to do together before I leave. I am a little worried that we will lose some of the closeness we've always shared, but attending this and making those memories will help greatly in maintaining that connection."
This is Ogletrees' favorite event Tyndall does, because she likes watching the relationships between fathers and daughters develop.
"It was a great event. The folks who put it together obviously put a lot of thought into each aspect," Stockslager said. "I recommend other fathers take their daughters to this event in the future. I know my daughter and I will look back on the dance with a great deal of fondness for the wonderful memories made."
