53rd Weapons Evaluation Group changes command

Col. James R. Vogel, 53rd Weapons Evaluation Group commander, passed command of the group to Col. Scott L. Ward during a change of command ceremony May 29. Vogel will retire May 30. Ward's previous assignment was Chief of Joint Innovation and Experimentation, US Pacific Command, Camp H.M. Smith, Hawaii. The 53rd WEG is an Air Combat Command tenant organization that reports to the 53rd Wing at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla. The group conducts the Air Force's air-to-air Weapon System Evaluation Program, known as Combat Archer, and the Air Force's air-to-ground WSEP, known as Combat Hammer. A 'Meet the Commander' feature on Ward will be published in the coming weeks.
