Temporary Lodging Expense reimbursement extension

Airmen new to Tyndall now have up to 60 days to be reimbursed for Temporary Lodging Expenses starting March 12 and ending Sept. 14.

"Typically, a member is only authorized 10 days of TLE between old and new permanent duty stations," said Col. David E. Graff, 325th Fighter Wing commander, in a memorandum to the new arrivals to Tyndall. "The temporary increase allows members newly assigned to Tyndall to be reimbursed up to a maximum of 60 total days."

The temporary change in TLE is associated with the large amount of Airmen arriving in support of the new missions at Tyndall.

"Inbound Airmen were experiencing long stays in TLE while they were awaiting suitable permanent quarters on or off base," said Senior Master Sgt. April DeReus, 325th Comptroller Squadron superintendent. "While members maintained their housing allowance during their stay in temporary quarters, those that occupied temporary quarters longer than 30 days often exceeded their housing allowance. This was especially true for our more junior members with dependents."

While there is a 60-day grace period, it is imperative for Airman to find a permanent solution to temporary housing.

"First and foremost, members must continue to actively seek permanent housing," said DeReus. "Next, they must file their TLE claims in 10-day increments and itemized receipts must be provided to match each period."

Airmen will need to file claims through the Permanent Change of Station In-Processing System located in the Air Force Portal.
