As part of the quarterly Comprehensive Airmen's Fitness Day, members of Team Tyndall will take a break from their daily mission and head out to the local community to perform volunteer service projects.

CAF day is a day dedicated to improving the total Airman. According to Corey Coleman, Tyndall community support coordinator, it has evolved from a dedicated safety day to a day that encompasses resilience training, fitness, safety, volunteer service and overall well-being.

"CAF day is time we set aside to discuss how Airmen can be well physically, mentally, spiritually and socially, which are the four pillars of Comprehensive Airmen Fitness," said Coleman. "It's a time where we can hit pause on our day-to-day mission and focus on things like our resilience training."

Coleman explained that as part of the development of the overall well being of each Airman, they perform community service. By taking time to reach out to those in need, this helps Airmen strengthen their four pillars.

Col. David Graff, 325th Fighter Wing commander, also recognized the dual importance of improving the total Airman, as well as giving back to the community.

"CAF day is truly a win-win scenario for everyone involved," Graff said. "Not only will it give Airmen the chance to get involved with local organizations, but Bay County also benefits from the Tyndall Airmen willing to sacrifice their time to give back to the community that has given us so much."

According to Coleman, many local organizations have reached out to Tyndall requesting help from Airmen looking for ways to volunteer.

"In the afternoon, Airmen from Tyndall will volunteer alongside several members from the community to accomplish several service projects," Coleman said. "We've partnered with The Girl Scouts, the Tyndall library, Bay County Council On Aging, The Boys and Girls Club, Tyndall Youth Center, the veterans home, Habitat for Humanity, St. Andrews Bay Center, Girls Inc., the Panama City Rescue Mission and numerous other agencies."

Not only will local organizations reap tangible benefits from Airmen volunteer work, there will be many unseen benefits as well.

This is a great day to build camaraderie while at the same time giving back to the community," Coleman concluded.

The day will begin with a base-wide FW commander's call to be followed by a 5K run. Units will then complete two modules of resilience training before conducting volunteer activities throughout the community during the afternoon. Uniform of the day is civilian attire.
