In the know with Mother Nature Published Feb. 25, 2014 By Airman 1st Class Alex Echols 325th Fighter Wing Public Affairs TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- The week of Feb. 24 to 28 is Severe Weather Awareness Week for the state of Florida. Throughout the week, the 325th Civil Engineering Squadron Readiness and Emergency Management Flight will be sharing important information about adverse weather conditions that can affect the populace of Tyndall. "This week allows the CES Readiness & Emergency Management Office to focus on educating the Checkertail Family about the types of severe weather that may be experienced here at Tyndall," said Marty Spikes, 325th CES Readiness and Emergency Management flight chief. "We're hoping to educate not only the military member of what they should do for their family, but educate the family on what they should do if the military person is not there." Information regarding thunderstorms and lightning, tornadoes, floods, hurricanes, rip currents, extreme heat, wildfires and extreme cold and snow will be released by the 325th CES through all of their available avenues to ensure that Airmen and their families are sufficiently prepared for any weather situation. "Each year, Florida experiences all types of severe weather, and I encourage all Tyndall residents and visitors to prepare for any type of disaster," said Spikes. According to the National Weather Service website, here are some common things families can do to prepare for most adverse weather conditions: -Create a disaster supply kit. The kit should include food, water, blankets, flashlights and batteries, first aid kits and any other items a family would need during the course of a storm. -Develop a plan for severe weather. Families should know where to go if an evacuation becomes necessary. -Monitor the weather. Find a way to keep up with the progress of any severe weather.
