The Tyndall Army and Air Force Exchange Service Express, located at the corner of Illinois and Suwannee Road, had its grand opening at 9 a.m. Feb. 6.

After nine months of construction the Express is fully operational and open to the residents and base personnel. With the newest environmental-friendly technology, this facility will serve those on the support side of the base.

Assisting in the ribbon cutting was Col. Mark O'Laughlin, 325th Fighter Wing vice commander.

"It's a great day for the community of Tyndall," O'Laughlin said. "You can see a huge improvement in the quality of life of our folks. Every time you come in to shop, whether at the Base Exchange or the Express, a large portion of the money you spend goes back into Tyndall and the community."

The Express has a lot of the latest technology, said Phillip Capshaw, Base Exchange general manager. It has amenities such as unattended fueling, providing access to gasoline 24 hours a day and the latest light-emitting diode, or LED, lighting.

The new Express will also have an improved selection of items.

"It's a one-stop-shop offering a wide variety of what we call snack avenue items," Capshaw said. "Items such as: coffee, morning snacks, gourmet ice, fountain drinks and convenience items. This new Express will be an improvement for the Airmen and those working on the support side of the base."

The facility is currently open Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays and holidays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
