The 325th Civil Engineer Squadron conducted the annual Solid Waste Audit Nov. 3 to 7.

During the audit, CES staff removed and sorted all of the waste from Tyndall's dumpsters searching for recyclables and electronic and hazardous waste. They concluded that Tyndall had improperly disposed of 600 pounds less than last year.

"The reduction compared to last year shows that people are being more aware of what they throw away," said Edwin Wallace, 325th CES pollution prevention program manager. "This shows that the word is getting out about the requirement to recycle."

The audit helps CES identify which areas have made progress and which need improvement.

"This audit was only a snapshot of one week out of the year, although we improved over last year there is still room for improvement," Wallace said. "Each time we throw recyclables in the trash we are throwing money away that could benefit Tyndall."
