The Tyndall Tax Service office is currently looking for volunteers to help with tax returns and administrative work January through April 2014.

"The Tyndall Tax Service Center provides active duty military, dependents and retirees with free tax preparation and advice," said Capt. Vincent DeFabo, 325th Fighter Wing assistant staff judge advocate.

Anyone can volunteer as long as they are able to dedicate a few days in January for a tax preparation course and at least two hours each week for the duration of the program, DeFabo said.

Volunteer income tax assistance representatives must be certified in order to see clients, give tax advice, and prepare and submit tax returns.

"No prior tax preparation or accounting experience is needed, although it certainly helps," said DeFabo.

Volunteers can be active duty military, dependents, retirees or anyone else who wants to help Airmen and retirees.

Volunteer opportunities are available for administrative tasks like client intake, answering phones, scheduling appointments and organizing prepared tax returns for review and filing.

At a minimum, 12 to 15 dedicated people are needed to assist on a regular basis.

"The more volunteers we have, the more Airmen, families and retirees we are able to serve," said DeFabo.

Tyndall Tax Service Center volunteers are able to save members of Team Tyndall tens of thousands of dollars each tax year.

"Volunteering for the tax center will directly support fellow Airmen," DeFabo said. "Volunteering, that demonstrates being a good wingmen, is always a very positive Enlisted Performance Report bullet. Airmen will also receive practical training in accounting and administrative support."
