Tyndall's hidden treasure reopens after July renovations Published Aug. 8, 2013 By Senior Airman Christopher Reel 325th Fighter Wing Public Affairs TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- Only got twenty dollars in your pocket? The Officers' Spouses' Club and volunteers spent the entire month of July revamping and restocking the Thrift Shop, and it is back to normal business hours open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. "As long as you have base access, you can shop with us, and everybody can benefit from finding great kids clothes, a summer read or unique home decor at extremely discounted prices," said Liz Campbell, Tyndall Thrift Shop chairperson. "The next really important point is that the shop wouldn't exist without the generosity of all the people who bring in donations and fill our outside donation bins. We get some amazing stuff. The Tyndall community is extremely kind!" The shop is run almost entirely by volunteers, and all the proceeds are given to charities selected by the OSC. Proceeds from the shop go towards college scholarships and supporting military families. During 2012, the Thrift Shop donated $11,000 in college scholarships to military dependents, $500 to the Fisher House, $500 towards the Tyndall Air Force Ball, and other Tyndall and national organizations. "The Thrift Shop is a hidden treasure many don't know about," said Luissette Nunez, Thrift Shop manager. "The Thrift Shop gets new inventory daily, and we urge anyone with base access to check us out before paying full price for something at a retail store. "We have a big job ahead of us," added Nunez. "With furloughs and the economy trying to recover we can be such a great asset to the military community who are trying to manage their finances wisely. We urge for everyone to take advantage of the great deals here. The shop is also a great outlet for people who are PCS-ing here and haven't received their belongings yet and want to purchase inexpensive, but great quality products to get by."
