Tyndall Economic Impact Statement highlights growth Published July 31, 2013 By Ashley M.Wright 325th Fighter Wing Public Affairs TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- A more than $45 million increase in economic impact highlighted the release of the 2012 Economic Impact Statement for Tyndall by base officials. "The economic impact growth reflects how Tyndall is evolving as we increase our role in Air Combat Command with the addition of our new squadron in the upcoming months," said Col. David E. Graff, 325th Fighter Wing commander. "As the additional 1,000 personnel and 24 F-22s arrive, we will continue strengthening both the economic and support ties we rely on with our local communities." The statement, available online, found the base had a total economic impact of more than $617 million in 2012. More than $1.7 million was paid to local colleges in tuition assistance for qualifying students, and more than $259,000 in government impact aid went to local schools. In 2011, the total impact was more than $570 million. The mission of the 325th Fighter Wing is train and project unrivaled combat power. "We could not succeed in this important mission without the contribution and support of our local communities. I extend my gratitude to every team member, to their families and the Bay County area for their world-class service and support to Tyndall," Colonel Graff said in the commander's welcome section of the document. "We are proud to be a part of a community that faithfully and consistently supports our military." The document shows that Tyndall supports 9,310 military retirees, 9,170 civil servant retirees and 9, 192 current employees, both military and civil servants, and their dependents. "The total economic impact is computed using standard factors, developed by the U.S. Department of Commerce, that consider the effect of payrolls, expenditures for contracts, materials, equipment, services, construction, and other procurement actions on the economy of the region," according to the executive statement for the document.
