The 325th Medical Group booster club is slated to host a bubble cup tournament 5 p.m. April 29, at the base track.

“Bubble cup is a cross between soccer and zorbing, a sport where an individual rolls down the side of a hill or sometimes a level surface in a giant plastic orb,” said Airman 1st Class Jadow Hughes, 325th Medical Support Squadron medical laboratory technician. “The plastic orb surrounding the player in bubble soccer is similar in construction but differs where they allow the player’s legs to run around freely.”

The annual event is fund raiser for the 325 Medical Group Booster Club.

This fundraising game is scheduled for a 16-team, double elimination tournament. Additionally, it is a base-wide event and open to all. Registration will cost $130 for each six person team. This breaks down to $20 per person with a $10 registration fee.

For those still unaware of what bubble cup is, it is similar to soccer.

“The objective of bubble soccer is to score against your opponent’s net and knock each other down while trying,” Hughes said. “As far as how the game is played, standard soccer rules apply, but full contact is allowed. The game starts much like a competitive game of dodgeball. When players hear the whistle, they fearlessly rush in to the center to find and kick a soccer ball.”

“When we first decided to do this event we wanted to give everyone on the base an opportunity to try this new, fun and growing sport for a fair price. The 325th Medical Group booster club is looking forward to seeing participants out on the field having a good time,” Hughes added.
