As a result of Hurricane Matthew, A-10 Thunderbolt aircraft from Moody AFB, Georgia, relocated to Tyndall Air Force Base Oct 6, 2016.

Moody officials ordered the relocation to provide a “safe haven” for aircraft that could not be stored inside Moody’s hangars to prevent potential storm damage. At this time, evacuation of Moody AFB personnel has not been ordered.

Tyndall was chosen as a safe haven on the basis of location, out of danger of the storm, and its ability to house Moody support personnel and provide maintenance to Moody’s aircraft.  Evacuated aircraft and designated personnel will return when the storm danger has passed.

Although Tyndall is not in the direct path of Hurricane Matthew, officials encourage everyone to monitor the weather this weekend and to be prepared.
