The Document Automation and Production Service, a field activity of the Defense Logistics Agency, has been serving the Department of Defense for over 60 years.

DAPS provides a full portfolio of best value document services ranging from traditional offset printing, through on-demand output, to online document services. It is the catalyst for document automation in the DOD by actively functioning as a transformation agent to move the department toward the use of online documents and services; however, DAPS is much more than just a "Print Shop."

Some call DAPS the "DOD's printer" or the "quick copy guys." While it does provide those services, DAPS has evolved to be much more than that basic description implies.

DAPS currently manages more than 190 production facilities, primarily located on U.S. military bases worldwide. Besides this robust organic functionality, DAPS leverages the capabilities of the industry by outsourcing nearly 70 percent of the DOD's document requirements through commercial service contracts, some of which are through the Government Printing Office.

The multitude of DAPS services include building digital document libraries, allowing for online access; the provision of multifunctional devices (those which print from networks, copy, fax, and scan) in customer workspaces; and the conversion of paper documents to standard digital formats. One of our unique services is "Distribute and Print." Through it, a digital document can be sent to one or more sites for printing on location, and the job can be picked up or delivered to the customer. It's fast, convenient and saves considerable shipping costs.
