Meet Col. Grund Published July 25, 2011 By Airman 1st Class Christopher Reel 325th Fighter Wing Public Affairs TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla -- It is much like a 'coming home' for the new 325th Mission Support Group commander. "It was a mere 18 years ago when I married my wife Teresa, who is from Springfield, Fla., here at Chapel 2," said Col. William Grund, 325th MSG commander. "I was a software programmer for the North American Aerospace Command System Support Facility here in 1991." Colonel Grund replaced Col. Michael Fleck as commander of the 325th MSG June 28. "I always had an interest in serving my country and I wanted an education," said Colonel Grund. "I decided to take advantage of the Reserve Officer Training Corps and scholarship opportunities at the University of Tampa." Throughout his years of service, Colonel Grund has learned much about himself, as well as acquiring a good sense of what it means to be a serviceman. "Being a serviceman, you learn to put up with a lot more than you think you can handle," Colonel Grund said. "It is a hard life, but it is a rewarding life. Being in the service for 20 years you learn true hardships and while on deployments you see how very fortunate we are to live in this great country." Colonel Grund plans to use those past experiences and years of learning and developing as an Airman as the foundation for his assignment here at Tyndall. "My goals as new commander are to provide guidance and support for the arrival of new squadrons and for the transition to Air Combat Command," said Colonel Grund. Colonel Grund recently served as the Director of Current Operations, Secretariat of the Air Force, CIO/A6, Washington, D.C. "My family and I are excited to be coming back to Tyndall," Colonel Grund said. "My focus is to be the best I can possibly be as an Airman, a husband, and a father." "Striving to be the best you can be is important," added Colonel Grund. "Airmen are in a fiscally strained environment, it is important to remain flexible. By remaining flexible and striving to be the best, we will continue to meet the ever changing challenges facing us today and into the future."
