For the first three years of their enlistment, most single Airmen are required to reside in the base dormitories. The upkeep of these facilities is left in their hands.

Each week a crew of dorm residents, selected from various squadrons, and easily identified by their blue mesh vests, are assigned to bay orderly, or commonly referred to as "Bayo". It is their responsibility to scour the dormitory areas for trash, maintain day rooms and escort contractors doing work in the Airmen's rooms.

"The bay orderly program has a schedule that is created once per quarter on a fair share system, so all the squadrons participate in it," said Tech. Sgt Calvin Charles 325th Civil Engineer Squadron senior dorm leader. "They start Tuesday and end on the following Monday. It teaches Airmen how things should look and how to improve their situational awareness when it comes to the cleanliness of the dorms."

Bay orderly sends a simple message: Clean up after yourselves, Charles added.

Having been to other bases, Charles noticed leadership pays close attention to the cleanliness of the campus.

"When a commander or other leadership walk through they can see that we take pride in where we live," said Airman 1st Class Andrew Foti, 325th Operations Support Squadron dorm management bay lead. "It shows Airmen demonstrating the core value of service before self and that we truly can show excellence in all we do."

Charles extended his thanks to the First Sergeants for being involved and making sure Airmen do bay orderly on a regular basis.
