Comm Airman leads by example

TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. --  One Airman at the 325th Communications Squadron stands out as a leader, in a time and place where strong leadership is sorely needed.

Staff Sgt. Sam M. Greene, 325th Communications Squadron client systems supervisor, was hand-picked by his supervision for his dedication to the mission and performance as a leader.

Greene leads a team of Airmen responsible for configuring and troubleshooting computer hardware and software that affects everything from enabling java script applications to installing base-wide voice over internet protocol phone systems. The team is also responsible for providing customer service for issues concerning domains, email, installations and networks.

“Currently half of the client systems work center has deployed, and it’s up to the remaining client system team to take care of the entire base. His commitment to the mission and customer service has maintained exceptional quality,” said Master Sgt. Aminah Meho, 325th CS section chief client systems and knowledge management operations. “Sam’s dedication is commendable, he is easily the representation of what a NCO should strive to be in today’s ever changing Air Force.”

A Franklin, Indiana native, Greene joined the U.S. Air Force in 2009 when he was just 19 years old, and his goal was to see the world.

“I joined to see more than just a small town in Indiana. I wasn’t too picky on where I would go, but I got lucky and was sent overseas to the United Kingdom for my first duty location,” Greene said.

When not in the shop, Greene fills his time with automotive hobbies and music.

“To relax I’ll play my guitar or lounge in my hammock,” he said. “If I’m feeling like a change I’ll find something to tinker with on my car.”

Greene is also pursuing a bachelor’s degree in information technology.

“I’ve found that the work will get done one way or another, but the relationships, education and skills you gain should be the coveted item you take with you into the future,” Greene said.
