CAP

The Civil Air Patrol, an official Auxiliary of the United States Air Force, recently visited Tyndall Air Force Base. The members, all volunteers, went through the Air Force Civil Engineering Academy. It is one of 32 different special activities that CAP cadets can participate in during the summer months. AFCEA introduces cadets from 15 to 20 years old, from all over the United States, to Air Force civil engineering utilizing a modification of the same course that all Air Force Second Lieutenant civil engineers are required to take. The cadets are exposed to engineering, heavy equipment, electrical, utilities, structures, fire and rescue, power production, and explosive ordinance disposal. They do this through lecture and hands on work. This year, of the more than 66,000 members nationwide, 32 cadets completed the program. The CAP’s mission is Emergency Services, Aerospace Education and the Cadet Program. (U.S. Air Force photo by Chris Cokeing)
