The summer months are fast approaching and what better way to cool off than splashing around in a swimming pool.

The base pool is scheduled to open Memorial Day weekend, May 27, for the upcoming season, but may experience delays due to the civilian hiring freeze that is currently in effect.

The pool will be open to anyone with base access, to include military ID card holders and their dependents, retirees and civilians with authorized access to the installation. It will be open for squadron physical training sessions, dedicated lap swim and open swim.

Once the season begins, swim lessons will be offered by Red Cross-certified swim instructors.

The trained life guard staff is made up of CPR and first aid qualified civilians, high school and college students.

Before the pool re-opens, it must first go through several revitalization processes that includes a pre-season inspection with examiners from several base entities, to include outdoor recreation, civil engineers, bioenvironmental, safety, public health and the fire department.

During the revitalization process, the pool will be drained, recoated and refilled. Utilities to the facility will be inspected and restored. All fire extinguishers, pool maintenance supplies and safety equipment will be inspected, repaired and restocked.

Tyndall officials will make every effort to re-open the pool as scheduled however the current federal hiring freeze may cause delays.

The pool will be open Tuesday through Friday 6 a.m. - 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. - 1 p.m. for lap swim, and open swim from 1 p.m. - 7 p.m.

Saturdays, Sundays and holidays will be open 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.

The pool will be closed on Mondays for cleaning and maintenance.
