The 325th Civil Engineer Squadron Natural Resources hosted more than 45 children, ages five to 12, from the Tyndall Youth Center's Spring Break Camp March 26 and 27.

The children explored Tyndall's Deer Run Nature Trail and learned about Florida's wildlife.

"We taught the children about the wildlife that lives on Tyndall like birds, bears, bobcats, snakes, turtles and fish," said Ms. Wendy Jones, 325th CES Natural Resources wildlife biologist.

The children arrived at the Natural Resources building where they were briefed about the different kinds of wildlife and habitats on Tyndall. The students then learned how to operate binoculars, which were loaned by the Bay County Audubon Society.

"Once the children learned how to use the binoculars, the children then went on the nature trail for a photo scavenger hunt and bird watching," Ms. Jones said.

The Deer Run Nature Trail starts at the parking lot of the Natural Resources building.

On the trail, the children learned the importance of doing bird counts and what it means to be an endangered species.

"The kids seemed to enjoy the hike. They climbed an observation tower, identified a few birds, and looked at carnivorous pitcher plants, and learned what it means to be an endangered species," said Ms. Jones.
