Tyndall Air Force Base is now in the midst of the annual Combined Federal Campaign fundraising program. The CFC started Sept. 17 and will end Oct. 29. Given the request for fundraisers by many base affiliated private organizations that occur throughout the year, it is important that each organization understands the procedures for gaining approval for desired events.

Fundraisers are bound by substantial legal considerations, however, if proper procedures are followed, the goal can usually be accomplished.

One of the leading pitfalls is when the event is to be held in the workplace, a venue generally inappropriate for private organization fundraisers. These limitations can be referenced in greater detail in table one of Air Force Instruction 36-3101, Fundraising within the Air Force, a chart that provides specific guidance on what is and what is not, authorized. The chart is particularly helpful in determining prohibited activity conducted during CFC or Air Force Association Fund seasons. General guidance can be found in AFI 34-223, Private Organization Program.

It is important that any private organization seek approval well in advance of starting to plan a fundraiser, since no organization is allowed to hold a fundraiser without legal office approval.
