Meet the Commander - Capt. Anthony McCarty Published June 4, 2012 By 2nd Lt. Andrea Valencia 325th Fighter Wing Public Affairs Tyndall Air Force Base -- As a teenager, he always wanted to serve his country and became the first member of his family to volunteer for military service. Originally from DePauw, Ind., Capt. Anthony McCarty enlisted in the Air Force at age 20 as a Security Policeman. Eighteen years later he is now in command of the 325th Security Forces Squadron. "I wanted to be able to have the biggest impact I could on the Air Force," said Capt. McCarty. "To do that, I chose to get my commission." He assumed command of the 325th Security Forces Squadron from Major Jeffrey Adams during a change of command ceremony, May 24. Since commissioning he has served as a security forces executive officer and operations officer at Malmstrom Air Force Base, Mont., Hickam AFB, Hawaii, and has had numerous deployments. His most recent position prior to taking command was as a member of Air Combat Command's, Commander's Action Group at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Va. "This is a unit with a tremendous tradition and legacy with a group of outstanding men and women in the unit here at Team Tyndall," said Capt. McCarty. "My job is to continue to build upon and improve this already outstanding squadron by looking for ways to improve and strengthen the defense of Team Tyndall." His advice to his new Airmen is to continue to challenge themselves, develop their leadership skills, and always be prepared to deliver when called upon. Captain McCarty has enjoyed the travel opportunities provided by the Air Force. "I've had the ability to see some of the most amazing places around the globe," said Capt. McCarty. "I've seen some places that I never would have had the opportunity to see without being an Airman." When not working, he enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife, Dawn, and their two children. "I love spending time with my family," said Capt. McCarty. "In the military we dedicate a lot of hours to our jobs, our professions, so any free time I have is spent with my family doing sports or being out on the water." "I'm very glad to be here, we have had a tremendously warm welcome from everyone at the wing," said Capt. McCarty. "We are looking forward to being part of the Team Tyndall family."
