Meet Maj. Carroll Published July 21, 2011 By 2nd Lt. Melanie Holliday 325th Fighter Wing Public Affairs TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- Growing up as a son to a retired army first sergeant, Maj. Christopher Carroll knew he wanted to continue the legacy of being in the military. "Moving to different places and seeing the leadership aspect of the military was what drove me to join the Air Force," said Major Carroll. Major Carroll was raised in Deridder, La., with a brother and a sister. While attending Deridder High School, Major Carroll played forward for his high school basketball team. In 1996, Major Carroll graduated from Deridder High School and began college at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, La. Basketball was still a big part of the major's life during college. "I played basketball on LSU's practice team," said Major Carroll. "I liked playing for the practice team because I still got to play basketball without always going out of town for games. This allowed me to focus on my school work." In 2000, Major Carroll graduated from LSU with a bachelor's degree in Information Systems and Decision Sciences and commissioned into the United States Air Force. His first assignment took him to Scott Air Force Base, Ill., where he was the crew commander of network operations security center. Next, he was the mission systems flight commander and wing executive officer at Luke Air Force Base, Ariz. from 2003 to 2006. He later went on to be a Reserve Officer Training Corps instructor for Detachment 305 at Louisiana Tech University. While in this position, Major Carroll served two summers as a flight training officer. "I enjoyed being a FTO," he said. "This was an opportunity to see young officers in the making." After ROTC, Major Carroll returned to Scott Air Force Base to work at Air Mobility Command headquarters as a branch chief, budget officer and executive officer. Major Carroll's most recent assignment brought him to Tyndall to replace Maj. Ericka Farmer-Hill as the new 325th Comptroller Squadron commander. As the 325th CPTS commander, Major Carroll is the financial advisor to the wing, group and squadron commanders. He has many expectations for the squadron, to include the satisfaction of all comptroller customers. "I want to meet all the needs of our customers by providing them world-class customer service," he said. But Major Carroll isn't all work. "When I'm not working or spending time with my family I enjoy lifting weights and playing basketball," said Major Carroll. Major Carroll is married to Denise and they have two children, Jalen, 10 and Lauren, 6.
